A way to live the work; a way to work the life

Look at your colleague next to you and think…

  • What do you know about him/her?
  • Do you know what he/she likes?
  • What does he/she want to get from life?

Do you have the answer for all these questions? Or for yourself?

Do you know what you want to get from life and how to get it?

What are your end-goals?

Why are you seated on that chair?

Maybe you know the answers; or maybe you don’t.

Perhaps the responses are: “nothing”, “not too much”, “he is married and has 2 kids”, “She likes…” “I don’t know…”

Can the answers to those questions make a difference?

Let me tell you something:

One day, surfing the web, I bumped into Vishen Lakhiani and his company Mindvalley, a producer, publisher and accelerator of products and businesses in the personal development and lifelong learning niches.

Vishen talks about the difference between “means-goals” and “end-goals”, and how we often confuse these two concepts. He proposes a change in the way we think about goal-setting asking, ane encourage us to ask ourselves The 3 Most Important Questions in terms of experiences in life, growth and contribution – because, one day, you wake up and you discover that you don’t really know what you want to get from life or what you really enjoy.

Did you ever reflect about your end-goals?

It means think about the end result of being human: experiences in life that make you feel alive, like traveling, meeting people from other cultures, climbing, enjoying time spent with your family and friends, learning a new language, laughing every day…

This is why we should conduct this exercise, to get closer to our colleagues and to ourselves.

We at Qumram did just that, during one of our Brown Bag Sessions: 14 people, 3 cities, 7 minutes and 3 questions:

  • What experiences do you want to live in life?
  • How do you want to grow?
  • How do you want to contribute to the world?

The answers?

We will keep them ourselves, but I assure you the outcome was amazing. It was fantastic to discover the wishes, the dreams and the feelings of our colleagues. It is powerful!

Now we can help one each other to get our life-end-goals and to make people smile.

It costs nothing and you reap the rewards.
